Paris, Washington coordinate on Ukraine, Iran and upcoming NATO summit
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed preparations for the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, the implementation of the US-Iran agreement, and the situation surrounding Ukraine during a phone call, the French Foreign Ministry said.
Barrot stressed the need to achieve a durable and verifiable agreement ensuring that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.
The two sides also welcomed the framework agreement reached between Lebanon and Israel, as well as the decisive role played by the United States. The French minister reaffirmed France’s readiness to support its implementation in order to ensure the full restoration of Lebanon’s sovereignty, the establishment of the Lebanese state’s monopoly on arms, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, while guaranteeing the security of both Israel and Lebanon.
They also discussed the situation in Ukraine, building on what were described as constructive discussions held during the G7 summit in Evian.
The officials further addressed preparations for the NATO summit in Ankara, scheduled to take place on July 7–8, according to the ministry.
