Pentagon releases declassified UFO contact files, including pilot reports Photo
The Pentagon has launched a dedicated section on its website publishing declassified information on contacts between the US military and unidentified flying objects (UFOs/UAPs), releasing 162 files in its first batch.
The initial release mainly includes written testimonies from pilots describing UFO sightings over the United States, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Pentagon.
The Department of Defence said the publication is being carried out “in response to President Donald J. Trump’s directive for transparency on U.S. government information regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).”
The statement added that, with support from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, it is coordinating a government-wide effort to search, analyse, identify, declassify, and publicly release unresolved UFO-related records and historical documents held by federal agencies.
Describing the initiative as unprecedented, the department said it involves coordination across dozens of agencies and the review of tens of millions of records spanning decades, many of them paper-based.
It added that new materials will be released regularly, with updates expected every few weeks.
According to the Pentagon, the published materials concern “unresolved cases,” meaning the government cannot reach a definitive conclusion on the nature of the observed phenomena due to insufficient data.
It encouraged the use of private-sector expertise for analysis and said further reports on resolved cases will be published in line with legal requirements.
The department emphasised that under this Administration, they “will pursue the truth and share our findings with the American people.”
A statement from Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth was also published on the site, saying:
“The Department of War [Defence Department - ed.] is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves. This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.”
