PM Kobakhidze labels Georgia's government unequivocally pro-European

03 November 2024 15:09

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized in an interview with Italian TV channel Sky that the Georgian government is unequivocally pro-European.

According to him, the Georgian Constitution defines as a priority of the country's foreign policy that every government should support Georgia's European integration, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

“There is no question of choice for us here, because the Georgian Constitution defines as a priority of the country's foreign policy that every government should make every effort to promote Georgia's European integration. The government is unambiguously pro-European,” the Prime Minister stated.

The Head of the Georgian government also commented on the relations with the EU in the prism of the adopted “Russian laws” and noted that if someone assures us that the law “On Transparency” or any other law is not in line with legal principles or European spirit, “we are ready to reconsider any relevant decision, but this requires a frank discussion”.

Touching upon the topic of accusations of changing the country's foreign policy course, the prime minister noted that against the background of the absence of diplomatic relations, Tbilisi and Moscow have relations of humanitarian nature, as well as in the sphere of trade and economy.

“We have no diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, as 20% of our territory is occupied by the Russian Federation. Our communication mainly concerns humanitarian issues, trade and economy,” he emphasized.
