PM predicts tough times ahead for Britain
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has acknowledged that the process of rebuilding Britain will be lengthy and challenging, given the issues he attributes to the previous Conservative government.
He warned that “things will get worse before they get better”, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Starmer, who won a decisive victory in July, has pledged to address the deep-seated issues in British society, citing this month’s anti-migrant riots as evidence of the divisions exacerbated during the Conservative Party’s 14-year rule. In his address from the Rose Garden at Downing Street—where former Prime Minister Boris Johnson hosted controversial parties during COVID lockdowns—Starmer criticised those events for undermining public trust in politicians.
“We have inherited not only an economic crisis but a societal one, which is why we must take decisive action and approach things differently. This means being honest about the difficult choices ahead and the tough road we face,” Starmer stated. “Honestly, things are likely to get worse before they start to improve,” he added.
