PM: UK to strengthen Ukraine's position by 2025
UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that the UK aims to ensure Ukraine in the strongest possible position by 2025.
Starmer made this statement during a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart, Jonas Gahr Støre, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
He noted that strengthening Ukraine’s position involves both economic sanctions and the shadow fleet initiative, aimed at targeting critical sources of revenue that fund Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Starmer and Støre agreed that unwavering support for Ukraine from allied nations has been reinforced within the Joint Expeditionary Forces (JEF)—a coalition of the UK’s strongest and most committed supporters for Ukraine. They also discussed the need to stay ahead of emerging threats, including those in the cyber domain. Both leaders agreed that close cooperation with NATO allies across all areas of defence and security is crucial.
On December 12, representatives from Ukraine and the UK held the fourth round of talks aimed at reaching a bilateral agreement to transition to a stronger and deeper partnership. On December 16, Norway allocated an additional 2.7 billion Norwegian krone (approximately $242.38 million) to bolster Ukraine's maritime defence.
