Poland to build fence along entire border with Russia
Poland will build a barrier along the entire length of the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.
"I am not only in favour of building a secure fence, but we have also announced that we will first start installing a perimetry system that will allow us to secure the border electronically, but later we will erect a corresponding physical barrier in certain sections," Morawiecki said in response to a question from public radio Radio Olsztyn, Interfax reports.
"Finally, we will build an appropriate physical barrier along the entire length of the border (...) so that residents can feel even safer," the prime minister added.
He recalled that now the border barrier on the section of Poland's border with the Kaliningrad region is a 200-kilometre-long razor-wire fence. Currently, a system of cameras and sensors is being installed there, and these works are "nearing completion."
According to Morawiecki, "When it will be possible to conduct border activities peacefully with our eastern neighbour, we will make it possible through the appropriate border crossing infrastructure".
