Poland to try man accused of collecting intel for possible Zelenskyy assassination
Polish authorities have scheduled the first hearing in the case of Paweł K., who is accused of collecting information that could have been used by Russian intelligence to plan an assassination attempt on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The trial will take place at the District Court in Zamość, Lublin Province, with the initial session set for November 25. According to court spokesperson Paweł Tobala, the first meeting will be a technical session to establish trial procedures and the course of proceedings, Caliber.Az reports per Polish media.
Paweł K. was detained by officers of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) on April 17, 2024. Authorities discovered illegally stored ammunition during a search of his premises, after which he was placed in custody. Investigators say he acted on behalf of Russian military intelligence and maintained contact with Russian nationals involved in the conflict in Ukraine.
According to the indictment, his task was to gather and transmit information about the security system at Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, which could have been used to facilitate an assassination attempt on President Zelenskyy.
The case was initially filed with the District Court in Warsaw on May 20, 2024, but was transferred to Zamość on June 5 due to difficulties in determining the precise location of the alleged crime.
