Poll: 71.9% of Romanians would back unification with Moldova
A new public opinion survey indicates strong support among Romanians for potential unification with the Republic of Moldova, with nearly seven in ten respondents backing the idea in the event of a referendum.
The poll, conducted as part of the Barometr Informat.ro – INSCOP Research project and cited by Digi24, found that 71.9% of respondents said they would vote in favour of unification, while 21.4% stated they would oppose it.
A further 2.1% of those surveyed said they were undecided, 3.2% indicated they would not take part in such a vote, and 1.4% either declined to answer or said they did not know.
Respondents were also asked about the possible timeline for unification. According to the findings, 8.4% believe it could occur within the next three years, while 13.3% see it happening within five years. A larger share, 29.3%, considers unification possible in ten years or later. However, 34.7% of respondents expressed the view that unification will never take place.
The survey was carried out between April 14 and April 21, 2026, using telephone interviews (CATI). It was based on a sample of 1,100 participants and is representative according to key socio-demographic criteria. The reported margin of error is ±3%.
