President Aliyev: New global processes being reshaped
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev has said that the new global processes are being restructured.
“The new world order is in the process of reshaping. Now the world is witnessing the most serious East-West confrontation since the end of the Cold War, with repercussions for the remaining part of the world,” the head of state said addressing the Summit-level Meeting of the NAM Contact Group in response to COVID-19 on post-pandemic global recovery in Baku on March 2, according to Azertag.
Meanwhile, President Aliyev also emphasized the Non-Aligned Movement’s (NAM) influence in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic: “NAM’s leadership in mobilizing global efforts to fight the pandemic once more demonstrated the Movement’s influence and responsibility.”
“Azerbaijan provided coronavirus-related financial and humanitarian support to more than 80 countries, most of those from our NAM family either through bilateral channels or World Health Organization,” the president noted.
Continuing his speech at the NAM meeting in Baku, President Aliyev pledged that Azerbaijan will continue to provide NAM countries in need with financial and humanitarian assistance, as it did during COVID-19.
“I am announcing here two global appeals: in support of the post-pandemic recovery of Africa and small island developing states. I am pleased to announce that Azerbaijan, as the first donor, is providing US$1 million for both global appeals. I believe that NAM member countries and other members of the international community will support Azerbaijan's initiative and follow us in supporting countries in need on their path to post-pandemic recovery,” the head of state added.
