Azerbaijani, Turkish leaders highlight peace milestones, prospects of bilateral ties
On August 9, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, discussing regional peace and the future prospects of bilateral relations.
The two leaders hailed the dynamic development of Azerbaijan–Türkiye relations, rooted in brotherhood and a strategic alliance, across multiple spheres, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The discussion underscored the significance of agreements reached during President Aliyev’s recent visit to the United States, particularly the Joint Declaration signed by the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, the initialing of the Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the joint appeal to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group. These developments were described as vital for securing lasting peace and stability in the region.
President Aliyev emphasised the special role of President Donald Trump in facilitating these outcomes and expressed confidence that the creation of unimpeded transport links between Azerbaijan’s mainland and its Nakhchivan region would boost prosperity across the region.
He also highly valued President Erdoğan’s personal contribution and Türkiye’s steadfast support in the Armenia–Azerbaijan normalisation process, conveying his deep gratitude.
President Erdoğan congratulated President Aliyev on his leadership in advancing the regional peace agenda and reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to supporting peace and stability.
The leaders also welcomed the launch of Azerbaijan’s natural gas exports to Syria via Türkiye, highlighting the move’s importance for strengthening Syria’s energy security and improving the social welfare of its population.
