President Maduro accuses US of instructing Guyana to attack Venezuela
Executive Vice President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez has written on X that the US is militarising the Latin American region and instructing Guyana for an attack on Venezuela.
“Latin America and the Caribbean must remain a zone of peace. The peoples must oppose the US militarisation of our region,” Rodriguez was citing President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro’s statement, TASS reports.
She posted video footage on X in which Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, in a conversation with Venezuelan Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez, stressed that Guyana has been turned into the epicenter of a threat to peace in Latin America and Venezuela.
The president emphasised that “12 CIA bases and 14 secret [US Southern Command] bases have already been deployed in Guyana” and promised to “provide evidence”.
The Venezuelan president emphasised that “just as the US instructed Ukraine against Russia, it instructed Guyana”. President Maduro made this statement amid an escalation of the territorial conflict with Guyana.
The National Assembly of Venezuela adopted a law making Guyana Esequiba the 24th state of Venezuela in March 2024.
