President Tatar thanks Azerbaijan for supporting Turkish people of Cyprus

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for the support.

President Tatar delivered a speech at the Istanbul conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Armed Forces' operation to ensure peace in Cyprus, Azertag reports.

Welcoming guests from Azerbaijan who attended the event, President Tatar noted the steps to develop a dialogue between Lefkosa and Baku.

“We are grateful to Azerbaijan for supporting the Turkish people of Cyprus. We are ready to continue working for a bright future,” President Tatar said.

The president drew attention to the importance of interaction with Türkiye, noting that Ankara's position as one of the guarantors of security in Cyprus is vital for the Turkish Cypriots.

“The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus must be a party to any agreement on Cyprus within the peace negotiations that the UN proposes to resume,” he added.
