Putin, Raisi discuss Iran’s integration into BRICS, situation in Garabagh
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi have had a phone talk.
The parties reviewed Iran's smooth BRICS membership as well as the situation in Azerbaijan's Garabagh region. The conversation was held at the initiative of the Iranian side, Caliber.Az reports citing the Kremlin’s Telegram channel.
President Raisi thanked for the support of the Iranian application to join BRICS. Steps were discussed to ensure Iran’s smooth integration into BRICS, taking into account Russia’s chairmanship in it in 2024.
The views on the situation around Garabagh and the issue of normalising relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia were exchanged.
President Putin informed about the activity of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, including rendering humanitarian assistance to civilians, protecting the rights and security of the Armenian population of Garabagh.
The presidents emphasised the importance of resolving all issues only through peaceful, political and diplomatic means. Mutual interest was expressed in intensifying the work of the “3+3” consultative regional platform (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia plus Russia, Iran and Türkiye).
When considering the bilateral agenda, the sides expressed satisfaction with the constructive and mutually beneficial Russian-Iranian cooperation.
The sides confirmed the intention to further strengthen trade and economic ties, promote major joint projects in the energy and transport sectors, and expand the relations.
