Qatar, France sign deal to expand Persian Gulf gas field
Qatar's state-owned oil and gas company Qatar Energy and French TotalEnergies signed on June 12 an agreement to expand the development of the world's largest offshore Northern gas field located in the northern part of the Persian Gulf.
The Emirate's Energy Ministry said that "the Northern Field expansion project will increase the country's capacity to produce liquefied natural gas to 126 million tons per year", TASS reports with reference to Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera.
It is noted that, according to the concluded agreement, practical gas production at the field will begin in 2026, and the expansion programme of the Northern field is designed for 25 years.
According to CNBC Arabia, Total Energy will receive 25 per cent of the joint venture, which will be engaged in the implementation of the project.
