Quake in Afghanistan jolts Tajikistan, Uzbekistan
Residents of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan felt relatively strong tremors in the morning on August 6.
The earthquake occurred at 0532 hours Tashkent time (0032 gmt) in Afghanistan, Interfax reports, citing the Center for Seismic Predictive Monitoring under the Uzbek Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.
The earthquake coordinates were 36.58 degrees north latitude; 70.67 degrees east with 5.9 magnitude in a depth of 100 km. The strength of the tremors in the southern regions of Uzbekistan amounted to 4 points, in Tashkent - 3 points.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 49 km southwest of the settlement of Jurm, in the province of Badakhshan, in northeast Afghanistan. Over the past day, this is the third relatively strong tremors close in amplitude to 6 in the region. There have been no reports of casualties or damage yet.
