Flooding in Dagestan leaves over 1,300 homes submerged
Severe flooding in Dagestan has left 1,339 residential houses and 1,664 household plots underwater across eight settlements, with 90 sections of road also submerged, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed.
The disaster has disrupted transport links with 23 settlements. Authorities have opened 16 temporary accommodation centres across the republic, providing shelter to 591 people, including 246 children, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Psychological support is being offered to those affected. Additional rescue and fire service units have been deployed to assist in the hardest-hit areas.
Emergency teams are conducting door-to-door inspections, clearing flooded plots, and delivering essential supplies such as food and water. Volunteers are supporting local residents by removing debris and assisting in relief efforts. Specialists are also carrying out disinfection and sanitation procedures while working to restore gas, electricity, and cold water supplies.
The floods caused widespread disruption, cutting communication with 97 settlements, closing 14 roads, and forcing the evacuation of more than 4,000 residents after a dam breach. A regional state of emergency has been declared in Dagestan.
