Reuters: Two drones used in attack on Iraq’s Khor Mor gas facility
Iraq’s armed forces announced on December 3 that last week’s attack on the Khor Mor gas field — one of the largest energy installations in the Kurdistan Region — was carried out using two drones.
According to the statement, one drone struck the facility, while the second crashed outside its perimeter without causing additional damage. The military said the incident had been thoroughly investigated and that those responsible had been identified, describing them as “outlawed elements,” Caliber.Az reports via Reuters.
The Khor Mor field, operated by the Pearl Petroleum consortium, has been targeted several times in recent years amid heightened tensions involving armed groups operating in northern Iraq.
On 27 November, Dana Gas confirmed that the facility had been hit by a rocket, damaging one of its main condensate storage tanks and triggering a large fire. Although no employees were injured, production was temporarily halted while damage assessments and safety inspections were carried out. The blaze, which engulfed a storage unit, burned for nine hours before Iraqi civil defence teams in Chamchamal managed to bring it under control.
The incident severely disrupted the region’s energy supply. According to the Ministry of Electricity, nearly 80 per cent of power generation in the Kurdistan Region was lost due to the interruption in gas deliveries caused by the attack.
