Romania pledges continued engagement with South Caucasus
Romania has said it intends to continue close cooperation with the countries of the South Caucasus in order to help unlock the region’s economic and political potential, according to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement, the ministry welcomed the successful conduct of Armenia’s parliamentary elections on June 7, describing them as taking place in a “competitive and democratic environment.” It also noted that the campaign allowed for broad public debate on the country’s development direction, Caliber.Az reports.

The ministry said it viewed the vote as particularly significant given what it described as ongoing foreign information manipulation and interference campaigns targeting Armenia and other electoral processes globally. It stressed that protecting democratic institutions and procedures remains essential not only for Armenia but also for regional stability.
Romania’s Foreign Ministry said the election results reflected what it called the maturity of Armenia’s democracy, adding that Armenian citizens had clearly expressed support for peace, stability, prosperity, and continued rapprochement with Europe. It also noted that voter turnout of nearly 59% demonstrated strong civic engagement and support for reforms and regional integration.
Following the election, Romania extended congratulations to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and expressed readiness to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations with Armenia.
The statement also emphasised Romania’s broader strategic interest in peace, security, and stability in the South Caucasus, arguing that such conditions are necessary for the region’s full economic and developmental potential to be realised.
It added that Romania supports efforts toward this goal both through bilateral relations and within the framework of its European Union membership.
