Romania shows interest in military cooperation with Türkiye
Romania has expressed strong interest in close military cooperation with Türkye.
As per TASS, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu emphasized this during a press conference in Ankara following talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. The text of his speech is available on the Romanian government's website.
"Romanian specialised companies have already demonstrated that they can meet requests for the production of gunpowder, shells, weapons and various components," the Romanian cabinet chief said. - "We have strong contracts with the Turkish side regarding Bayraktar drones and Otokar tactical armoured vehicles, but I believe we can come to a partnership on technology transfer so that Romanian companies can produce these components in Romania".
Significant opportunities for cooperation also exist in the energy sector, Ciolacu noted. "Türkiye is our main option for gas supply, either from the Caucasus or through liquefied natural gas stations," he said. "We agreed to set up a joint working group to assess cooperation opportunities in the field of reciprocal ties, as well as in renewable and nuclear energy," the Romanian prime minister added.
"Significant efforts by Türkiye made it possible to reach an agreement on the transit of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, an effort that was subsequently continued by Romania," Ciolacu noted. "I would like Romania and Türkiye to continue to act together both to help Ukraine and to participate in reconstruction after the conflict," he added.
