Russia begins migrant identification overhaul with new digital profiles
The Russian authorities should strictly monitor the entry of migrants into the country and their further movement, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev wrote on his VKontakte page following a meeting on state migration policy.
According to him, state control should be conducted “without any exceptions”, based on “the most modern technologies”, Caliber.Az reports.
Medvedev reminded that on December 1, an experiment to test the new rules of entry and exit of foreigners will begin at Moscow airports and at the automobile checkpoint in the Orenburg region.
In parallel, the authorized organization of the capital will organize genomic registration and issuance of an electronic migrant card.
In late October, Medvedev urged employers to monitor the labour discipline of foreign workers. He also reminded of the need to monitor the payment of taxes and conduct certain preventive work.
"The new rules are aimed at creating a reliable system of identification and control of all newcomers. We are talking about the collection and processing of biometric data and the creation of a digital profile of each foreigner. Following the results of the experiment, amendments will be made to the legislation," he added.
