Russia, Iran, and Türkiye condemn Israeli airstrikes on Syria
Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, along with Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, and Hakan Fidan, the Turkish Foreign Minister, issued a joint statement condemning Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory.
They characterized these actions as “a gross violation of international law,” Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The statement was released by the Russian Foreign Ministry following a meeting of the ministers in the Astana format on Syria, which was held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
“The ministers acknowledged the destabilizing influence of the escalating Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the situation in Lebanon on Syria,” the Foreign Ministry stated. They condemned the arbitrary airstrikes carried out by Israel on Syrian territory, asserting that these actions represent a serious breach of international norms.
In this context, the ministers emphasized the urgent need to enhance external support for Syria to facilitate its post-conflict reconstruction and to promote the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland. They specifically highlighted the negative impact of the unilateral sanctions imposed against Damascus on these efforts, as noted by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
