Russia, Iran explore strengthening relations amid key regional issues

As part of his official visit to Tehran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Before meeting with Pezeshkian, Lavrov held discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, covering several key topics, including the situation in Syria, the prospects for resolving the Iranian nuclear issue, and other pressing regional matters, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

During a joint press conference with Araghchi, Lavrov emphasized the critical importance of diplomatic efforts to address the nuclear issue, underlining that this window of opportunity must be effectively utilized.

Araghchi, in turn, reaffirmed Tehran's commitment to continuing its collaboration with Moscow and Beijing on the nuclear deal, stressing the importance of multilateral cooperation in finding a resolution.

Later, in his meeting with President Pezeshkian, Lavrov conveyed a “huge greeting” from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“You have a huge greeting from President Putin,” Lavrov said.

 In response, President Pezeshkian asked Lavrov to extend his own greetings to Putin.

“He said that the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that you signed with him, Abbas, and I will fully implement. And we have already begun fulfilling it today,” Lavrov replied, smiling.

This exchange highlights the continued strengthening of the strategic partnership between Russia and Iran, marking a significant moment in their bilateral relations.
