Russia says it downed over 100 Ukrainian drones overnight
Russia’s Defence Ministry says its air defences destroyed and intercepted 105 Ukrainian drones in overnight attacks across several regions and over the Azov and Black Seas.
According to the ministry, 25 drones were brought down over the Rostov region, 24 over Bryansk, 20 over Krasnodar and 15 over the Black Sea.
Ten drones were intercepted in the Kaluga region, eight over Crimea, two over the Azov Sea and one over the Smolensk region.
Earlier in the week, on September 1, 2025, Ukraine launched a major drone offensive, deploying over 100 drones against Russian targets, including the Konakovo Power Station in Tver Oblast and the Moscow Refinery in Moscow.
These attacks caused damage to dozens of homes and resulted in two fatalities, according to Russian authorities.
The escalation in drone warfare aligns with Ukraine’s increased production and deployment of long-range and first-person-view (FPV) drones, with reports indicating that Ukraine produced over one million FPV drones in 2024 and aimed to scale up further in 2025.
Conversely, Russia has also intensified its drone and missile barrages, launching thousands of drones weekly against Ukrainian targets, with a reported 6,443 drones and missiles fired in July 2025 alone.
