Russia, Syria express commitment to strengthening cooperation

The Russian Foreign Ministry has said that Russia and Syria expressed their commitment to developing cooperation based on principles of friendship.

This intention was expressed during the visit of a Russian delegation to Damascus, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media. 

"On January 28, an official Russian delegation, led by Special Representative of the Russian president for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, paid its first visit to Damascus since the change of power in the Syrian Arab Republic. The delegation was received by Head of the new Syrian administration Ahmed Al-Sharaa and had a detailed conversation with him, which also involved members of the Syrian interim government - Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Minister of Health Maher Al-Sharaa," the ministry said. 

"During an open discussion of the entire range of the Russia-Syria relations at this pivotal moment, both sides emphasised their continued commitment to building a broad and multifaceted bilateral cooperation based on the principles of traditional friendship and mutual respect between Russia and Syria," the ministry noted.

The Russian side reaffirmed its unwavering support for Syria's unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, as well as its readiness to render necessary assistance to the Syrian people in post-crisis reconstruction. Russia and Syria agreed to continue holding meetings to further strengthen ties and mutual understanding, including those on foreign policy issues. 

"A decision was made to hold bilateral talks to reach relevant agreements in line with the intention to further strengthen the multifaceted relations and mutual understanding between Moscow and Damascus, including foreign policy aspects," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
