Russia to apply online voting system in snap presidential elections
Remote electronic voting (REV) will be applied in the Russian snap presidential election for the first time.
Such a decision was made at a meeting of the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC), Caliber.Az reports, citing Lenta.Ru.
"The decision has been made," Russian Central Election Commission Chairman Ella Pamfilova said at the meeting.
Residents of 30 regions, including Moscow, will be able to participate in remote electronic voting.
The eighth presidential election in Russia will be held on March 15–17, 2024.
On December 18, Putin submitted his electoral documents to the CEC. The president will run as a self-nominated candidate. His candidacy was unanimously supported by a group of more than 700 voters.
At the moment, parliamentary parties are deciding on the candidates who will run in the presidential election. The Moscow branch of the Communist Party has recommended that party chairman Gennady Zyuganov, who has repeatedly run for president, and 70-year-old State Duma deputy Sergei Levchenko be nominated.
