Russia, US maintain regular contacts following Alaska Summit, Putins aide says
The administrations of Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump are holding regular contacts based on the agreements reached by the leaders during their meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, the US, on August 15, Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov noted.
“Contacts between representatives of the Russian President’s administration and the U.S. President’s administration are held continuously. These contacts are conducted based on the agreements and understandings formulated immediately before and during the Alaska meeting,” Ushakov told Russia's Channel One, TASS reports.
The 2025 Russia–United States Summit took place on August 15, 2025, at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. This marked the first time since 2015 that Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the United States, and the first time since 2019 that he met with U.S. President Donald Trump. The summit was primarily focused on the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War and aimed at exploring avenues for de-escalation and potential peace negotiations.
President Putin proposed ending the war if Ukraine ceded control of the Donbas region. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected any territorial concessions.
No concrete agreements were reached. Both leaders acknowledged the strained state of U.S.-Russia relations but expressed a willingness to continue dialogue.
