Russian-Finnish company top manager arrested on suspicion of treason
The Lefortovo Court of Moscow arrested Valery Timofeev until September 12 on suspicion of treason.
TASS reports that he is the vice-president of the Russian-Finnish Helsinki Shipyard Oy. The company is engaged in the construction of icebreakers and other vessels, including those for Russia.
“The Lefortovo court granted the petition of the FSB investigator and sent into custody Valery Timofeev, who before his arrest served as vice head of one of the Russian-Finnish companies associated with shipbuilding,” a law enforcement source told TASS.
Timofeev goes through Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“treason”). He faces up to 20 years in prison. The telegram channel "VChK-OGPU" writes that the top manager allegedly handed over secret information about the activities of the Russian Yantar shipbuilding plant. Investigative and operational measures were carried out at the plant.
As stated on the website of the Yantar plant, this is the only Russian shipbuilding enterprise located in the southeastern non-freezing part of the Baltic, close to the largest industrial centres in Europe. The main share in Yantar’s portfolio of orders is traditionally made up of warships as part of the implementation of the state defence order and military-technical cooperation.
