Russian, Iranian leaders take part in signing ceremony of accord on Rasht-Astara railway section
Russian and Iranian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ebrahim Raisi respectively are participating in the signing ceremony of an agreement on the creation of the Rasht-Astara railway section on May 17. Putin joined the ceremony via a video conference.
As Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Kremlin press service, according to the document, Moscow and Tehran will jointly finance the design, construction, and supply of goods and services.
The agreement will be signed by Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev and Iranian Roads and Urban Development Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash. Also present at the ceremony from the Russian side is Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
The length of the Rasht-Astara line will be 170 kilometres. It is needed to connect the land sections of the North-South international transport corridor, which will increase the economic efficiency of the trans-Caspian route. It is assumed that the Rasht-Astara line will be built with the participation of Moscow and Tehran, and the Astara (Iranian city) - Astara (Azerbaijani city) line - with the participation of Moscow, Tehran and Baku.
