Russian, North Korean foreign ministers hold strategic talks in Moscow
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his North Korean counterpart, Choe Son Hui, convened in Moscow for high-level talks on bilateral and international issues.
The discussions spanned a broad spectrum of topics, reflecting the growing depth of Russia–North Korea relations. Lavrov highlighted that the bilateral relationship has gained significant momentum in recent months, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“I often recall our meeting during the second round of the strategic dialogue in July this year at the magnificent Wonsan Kalma resort,” Lavrov said. “Over the past three and a half months, our relations have received an additional, very powerful impetus in advancing the fundamental agreements reached by our leaders in June 2024 during the Pyongyang summit.”
Choe’s visit to Russia comes days after the EU imposed sanctions on North Korean general leading DPRK troops deployed to Russia, part of measures aimed at curbing the two countries’ wide-ranging military cooperation against Ukraine.
Choe’s trip also comes as South Korea prepares to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit this week, with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping among the world leaders set to attend.
Meanwhile, Russia state media reported that Russia, China, and North Korea plan to erect a new monument on their shared border to commemorate soldiers who fought against Japanese colonial rule.
