Russian official: Western countries intend to incite Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko has said that Western countries intended to spark a conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Matvienko made these remarks at a meeting with Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, APA reports.
She noted that Russia has always actively participated in transforming the South Caucasus into a stable and peaceful region.
“It is very important for us. We see that Western countries only intended to inflame the conflict. We did not see any positive steps on their part in promoting the peace agenda. Azerbaijan is being pressured on various platforms, and this will not lead to anything good,” Matvienko said.
The speaker of the Federation Council noted that Russia-Azerbaijan relations are developing, and the presidents of the two countries constantly hold talks and meetings.
“Of course, the agreement on our allied relations was an important step and decision of our presidents. There are new directions and perspectives to the development of our bilateral relations. Big infrastructure, interregional and interstate projects are being discussed with Russia and Azerbaijan,” she added.
