Baku–Nairobi dialogue paves way for cooperation in housing and climate resilience PHOTO
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev, met with Kenya’s Minister of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, Alice Wahome, to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation, the embassy told local media.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted Kenya’s extensive experience in providing affordable housing, advancing sustainable urban development, and implementing climate change adaptation strategies.
The interlocutors also discussed preparations for the 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13), which will be held in Baku in 2026, and expressed interest in expanding collaboration in this field.
The 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum will be organised by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). In preparation for the event, Azerbaijan has already appointed a national coordinator and convened a meeting of the Organising Committee.
The World Urban Forum, held every two years, is the largest international conference on sustainable urban development. Baku’s selection as host underscores Azerbaijan’s growing role as a global platform for international dialogue.
Additionally, Ambassador Hajiyev invited Minister Wahome to participate in the III Azerbaijan Urban Development Forum, scheduled for October 15–17, 2025, in Khankendi and Baku.
The forum will focus on potential areas of cooperation aimed at long-term development and sustainability.
Following Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of COP29 last year, the event will further reinforce the country’s commitment to global principles rooted in peace and stability.
