Baku congratulates Afghanistan on Independence Day

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry has congratulated Afghanistan on the country's Independence Day, marked annually on August 19.

“Congratulations to Afghanistan and its people on the occasion of the Independence Day of Afghanistan! Happy National Day!” the Ministry wrote, Caliber.Az reports.

Afghanistan’s Independence Day commemorates the signing of the Anglo-Afghan Treaty of 1919, also known as the Treaty of Rawalpindi, which granted Afghanistan full sovereignty from British influence following the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The day is marked by national celebrations, though recent years have seen subdued observances due to ongoing political and security challenges under Taliban rule since August 2021.
