Russian vessel requests assistance from Turkish coastguard due to engine malfunction

A container ship travelling to Russia from Türkiye requested assistance from the Turkish Coast Guard at night because of an engine malfunction.

"The Russian-flagged container ship Ascalon, sailing from Tuzla to Russia, requested assistance at 02:30 a.m. local time 35 miles off the coast due to an engine malfunction," Gazeta.Ru reports, citing a source in the General Directorate of the Turkish Coast Guard.

A Turkish Coast Guard tugboat reached the vessel by morning, around 8:00 a.m. The container ship is to be towed to the nearest repair yard.

The vessel is currently about 60 kilometres from the entrance to the Bosphorus.
