Russia, India commit to boost hydrocarbon projects, military collaboration
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced significant progress in Russia-India cooperation following high-level talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Lavrov highlighted the mutual commitment to accelerating the implementation of the international transport corridor project known as “North-South,” as well as expanding collaboration in energy and defence sectors, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Lavrov underscored the positive momentum in bilateral energy cooperation, particularly in hydrocarbon extraction and supply.
“We have achieved good results in cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector, including the supply of Russian oil to the Indian market. We share a mutual interest in implementing joint projects for the extraction of energy resources, including in Russia — in the Far East and on the Arctic shelf,” he stated.
The Russian FM also emphasized the steady and consistent strengthening of the economic foundation underpinning the two nations’ “specially privileged strategic partnership.”
Highlighting the importance of the “North-South” transport corridor, Lavrov noted, “We welcome progress in the implementation of the international transport corridor project ‘North-South’ — we share common interests with our Indian friends. We have agreed to stimulate this work. There are promising plans to organize and increase cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route and much more.”
In addition to economic and infrastructural cooperation, Lavrov drew attention to the robust military ties between the two countries. “We also welcome the strong traditions in military cooperation, conducting joint exercises, and military-technical collaboration, which is also based on very solid historical foundations,” he added.
