Telegram rejects Russia’s encryption breach claims
Telegram has denied any data encryption violations in its messaging service, responding to Russian authorities’ allegations that foreign intelligence agencies have access to users’ chats.
“The Russian government's allegation that our encryption has been compromised is a deliberate fabrication intended to justify outlawing Telegram and forcing citizens onto a state-controlled messaging platform engineered for mass surveillance and censorship," Telegram’s press office told Reuters.
On February 10, Russia’s communications regulator Roskomnadzor intensified measures to slow down Telegram, warning that restrictions would continue if the company does not host servers in Russia and comply with Russian law.
The Ministry of Digital Development claims foreign intelligence agencies use Telegram chat data to conduct operations against the Russian military.
