Alert issued in Russia's Leningrad Region over possible Ukrainian drone entry
Authorities in the Leningrad Region have issued a warning due to the potential intrusion of a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) into the region's airspace.
The alert was announced by Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko on his Telegram channel.
“There is a possibility of a UAV entering the airspace of the Leningrad Region,” Governor Drozdenko stated. He also noted that mobile internet speeds have been deliberately reduced in the southwestern areas of the region as a precautionary measure.
The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that air defence units shot down seven drones over Russian territories during the night of August 23.
Later in the day, an additional 13 Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed by Russian air defence forces over the Bryansk and Kaluga regions.
Drone incursions into Russian territory have been occurring since 2022, following the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
