Security Council official warns of nuclear preconditions Russia’s patience has limits
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, has indicated that while formal preconditions for a nuclear strike exist, Russia remains patient and restrained.
In a Telegram post, Medvedev acknowledged that “no one truly desires nuclear escalation,” but noted that certain conditions could theoretically justify such a move, Caliber.Az reports.
Medvedev pointed to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, specifically citing the Ukrainian military's incursions into Russia’s Kursk region, as a factor contributing to the formal prerequisites for a nuclear response.
Despite these conditions, he emphasized that Russia’s current stance reflects deliberate patience, as a nuclear decision would entail irreversible consequences.
The Deputy Chairman also reprimanded the West for its inability to grasp the limits of Russian forbearance. He cautioned that, despite Russia's current restraint, there exists a threshold beyond which this patience could no longer be maintained.
