Solar flares trigger new geomagnetic storm alert
A series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have occurred on the Sun, raising the likelihood of a new geomagnetic storm on Earth, according to the British Geological Survey, Caliber.Az reports.
Experts noted that strong solar wind activity has caused periods of heightened geomagnetic turbulence in recent days. Similar conditions are expected over the next 24 hours due to the combined effects of a coronal hole and a weak CME recorded on 3 November.
Several medium-class (M-class) solar flares were detected, one of which could deliver a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field on 6 November. In addition, the coronal hole is forecast to further increase solar wind speed between 6 and 7 November, potentially intensifying geomagnetic disturbances.
