Spain to spend additional €50 million on US weapons for Ukraine
Spain will allocate an additional €50 million this year to purchase US-made weapons for transfer to Ukraine, El País reports, citing government sources.
According to the newspaper, the new funding will supplement the €100 million already approved for 2026 during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Spain last year.
The procurement will be carried out under the PURL mechanism, which enables European countries to purchase US weapons using European funding for delivery to Ukraine.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that his government will soon unveil a new aid package for Ukraine worth C$900 million ($633.5 million).
Speaking at the start of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ankara, Carney said the assistance package would be formally announced in the near future.
According to Carney, the package will include military vehicles, ammunition, air defence systems, and other equipment.
Zelenskyy, in turn, said Ukraine has already received an air defence package from Canada.
The Canadian prime minister further stated that his country intends to continue supporting Ukraine's energy needs, as well as its economic recovery and resilience.
