Spanish court bars PM's brother from public office for nine years
A court in Spain has sentenced David Sánchez, the brother of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, in a case involving abuse of office and barred him from holding public office for nine years.
The court in the city of Badajoz handed down the ruling on July 14 in connection with irregularities surrounding his appointment to a position within the provincial council, Caliber.Az reports, citing Spanish media.
The court found David Sánchez guilty of abuse of office and imposed a nine-year ban on serving in public administration roles.
Similar sentences were also handed down to former Badajoz provincial council head and former leader of the Socialist Party's branch in Extremadura, Miguel Ángel Gallardo, as well as to Luis Carrero, a friend of David Sánchez.
