Supreme Assembly of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan convenes emergency meeting
A closed session of the Supreme Majlis (Assembly) of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan is being held.
None of the ministers of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic are participating in it, according to Qafqazinfo.
Although the officials were not informed about the agenda of the meeting, important decisions regarding Nakhchivan are expected to be made.
Caliber.Az recalls, that a string of operations by Azerbaijan's Security Service has been conducted in the exclave, part of the Republic, which led to the detaining of several high-ranking officials, including the autonomous republic's finance minister, a department head within the customs agency and the head of the city planning committee, accused of embezzling government funds.
The Azerbaijani government in Baku has also carried out a series of reforms to the Nakchivani authority hierarchy by disassembling several agencies and opening new ones as part of a campaign to assimilate the government structures between Baku and the autonomous republic's capital carrying the same name, Nakhchivan.
