Suspected Monkeypox cases trigger hospitalisation in Moscow region Updated
At least two individuals have been hospitalised in Russia’s Moscow Region with suspected monkeypox infection, according to statements from a local medical facility and the regional public health authorities.
The patients were admitted to the Domodedovo Hospital, where officials confirmed to Ria Novosti that the reports of hospitalisation were accurate.
Earlier, the Telegram channel Mash reported that two residents of Mytishchi had been admitted with high fever.
According to the channel, both individuals claimed they had not travelled abroad or been in contact with known infected persons. Mash also alleged that several monkeypox cases had been recorded at the same hospital earlier in the year.
The regional branch of Russia’s consumer health watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, told TASS that one patient with a suspected infection, along with a contact person, had been hospitalised in Domodedovo. Authorities said a sanitary-epidemiological investigation had been launched and that a full set of containment and preventive measures was underway.
Officials added that biological samples had been collected for laboratory testing, contact tracing was in progress, and disinfection procedures had been ordered at the medical facility. Both patients are reportedly under medical supervision while the investigation continues.
