Sweden’s FM highlights NATO summit prep ahead ministerial meeting
Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Maria Malmer Stenergard, has outlined key priorities ahead of the upcoming NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in Helsingborg, emphasising the Alliance’s preparations for the July summit in Ankara and continued support for Ukraine.
“The Spring Meeting of NATO’s foreign ministers is an important part of the preparations leading up to the NATO Summit in Ankara in July. Topics of discussion during the Summit are expected to include a follow-up of the new commitment on defence expenditure decided at the NATO Summit in The Hague last year, as well as continued support for Ukraine,” Ms Malmer Stenergard said, Caliber.Az reports per the government press service.
In addition to hosting the meeting, Ms Malmer Stenergard will hold a series of bilateral talks with her NATO counterparts, aimed at strengthening cooperation on defence and security issues.
“Hosting a high-level meeting for the Alliance is a demonstration of Sweden’s ambitions to be an active and constructive NATO Ally,” she added.
As reported earlier, Sweden will host the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of foreign ministers on May 21–22, 2026.
This will mark the first time Sweden has hosted NATO foreign ministers since joining the Alliance in March 2024.
