Sweden warns Russia–NATO conflict could erupt "relatively soon"
Sweden’s Defence Committee has warned that military hostilities between Russia and NATO could begin “relatively soon,” says a new report outlining the country’s future defence policy direction.
The committee comprises representatives from eight parliamentary parties, along with experts and specialists from government institutions and public authorities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The report suggests that “Russian military actions, for example to test NATO’s cohesion and credibility under Article 5, could begin relatively soon,” while noting that such developments would depend on certain “favourable political conditions” for Moscow.
The document further states that Sweden’s security environment continues to deteriorate and highlights an increase in Russia’s military presence in the Baltic Sea region.
