Syrian FM Asaad Al-Shaibani arrives in Munich for security conference
On February 13, Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani arrived in Munich to participate in the 62nd Munich Security Conference.
The annual event, running until February 15, is one of the world’s leading platforms for discussions on international security, Caliber.Az reports via Syrian media.
It brings together global leaders and policymakers to address Middle East issues, geopolitical challenges, and global stability.
On the sidelines of the conference, Al-Shaibani met Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to discuss ways to enhance economic cooperation and support recovery projects.
Last year, Al-Shaibani led the Syrian delegation at the 61st Munich Security Conference, emphasising that Syria’s diversity is a source of strength and reaffirming the Syrian people’s commitment to pursuing national interests.
In October, the minister, together with Syrian General Intelligence Head Hussein Salameh, participated in a meeting of Munich Security Conference leaders held in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia, alongside senior international officials.
The 62nd Munich Security Conference (MSC) will be held from February 13–15, 2026, chaired by Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger. Nearly 50 world leaders, including Chancellor Friedrich Merz and key European officials, are confirmed to attend.
Amid growing global instability, challenges to alliances, and an eroding rules-based international order, the conference will focus on European security, the transatlantic relationship, multilateralism, regional conflicts, and the security impacts of new technologies. Ischinger highlighted that MSC 2026 will build on earlier discussions in Washington and AlUla to advance strategic dialogue and global cooperation.
