Tajikistan discusses fuel imports from Iran as supply declines
Tajik Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim has discussed fuel supplies, freight transportation and the development of transport and logistics cooperation with Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh, the press centre of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Transport has said.
The talks focused on Tajikistan’s plans to import 2.55 million tonnes of fuel, including 2 million tonnes of crude oil, 150,000 tonnes of gasoline, 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel and 100,000 tonnes of jet fuel, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
According to Ibrohim, the decline in fuel imports is linked to the geopolitical situation. Previously, more than 80% of Tajikistan’s fuel came from Russia.
The volume of fuel requested from Iran is equivalent to approximately 51,000 railway wagons.
The Tajik side proposed arranging specialised trains to transport the fuel and establishing a “green corridor” for them on Iran’s railway network.
The sides also discussed the development of the Tajikistan logistics centre at Iran’s Chabahar port, road and air transportation, as well as the creation of a new Iran-Afghanistan-Tajikistan-China transport corridor.
In the first six months of 2026, 432,790 tonnes of cargo were transported between Tajikistan and Iran, up 117.5% from the same period in 2025.
