Tanzania to reduce government vehicle use, switch officials to bus travel
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has instructed immediate measures to reduce fuel consumption across government institutions, including a major downsizing of the presidential motorcade.
The president announced that officials will now travel using a single bus instead of multiple vehicles, Caliber.Az reports, citing African media.
The presidential motorcade, which typically includes more than 30 cars, will be reduced to just four: the presidential vehicle, a police escort, a security service car, and a bus for officials.
President Hassan urged ministries, departments, and agencies to adopt similar measures to ensure efficient resource use amid global uncertainty.
She noted that frequent travel and large fleets of government vehicles are unsustainable.
Fuel prices in Tanzania have risen roughly 33% over the past month, a surge experts attribute to supply chain disruptions, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which Tanzania imports part of its fuel.
Addressing citizens, Hassan emphasised that the current situation stems from global developments rather than domestic mismanagement and called for patience and resilience.
