Trump highlights international support for Gaza peace plan, citing Azerbaijan’s backing
US President Donald Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, drew attention to countries that had endorsed his recently announced Gaza peace plan, citing statements issued by their governments.
Among them was Azerbaijan, whose Foreign Ministry formally welcomed the initiative.
According to Caliber.Az, the American leader posted an excerpt from a statement by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry with reference to the news agency Report.Az, which is part of Global Media Group.
In its statement, the Azerbaijani side expressed support for Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, describing it as an important step toward a sustainable and just peace. The ministry emphasised that lasting stability required commitment, trust, and respect for international law, while also underlining the urgent need to address humanitarian concerns.
Baku’s statement highlighted that the exchange of prisoners and hostages, along with measures to alleviate the population’s humanitarian needs, would be critical for confidence-building and for creating conditions conducive to long-term political settlement. It stressed that only dialogue and goodwill could lead to a durable resolution, with the two-state solution seen as central to this process.
Trump unveiled his 20-point proposal on September 29, outlining measures aimed at ending the conflict between Israel and Hamas. The plan called for the return of all hostages, both living and deceased, within 72 hours of a ceasefire. Many details were left to future negotiations and hinged on agreement from Hamas, which initiated hostilities against Israel on October 7, 2023.
The proposal also envisioned a redevelopment project referred to as “New Gaza,” designed to promote stability and economic recovery in the territory once the conflict ends.
