Trump supports restoring ties with Moscow, Russian ambassador says
US President Donald Trump has expressed support for restoring ties between Washington and Moscow, Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev said in an interview with Rossiya 24.
Darchiev said he briefly met with Trump following the White House credentials ceremony on June 11. The ambassador described the meeting as a sign of a shift from past "monologues" to more pragmatic and constructive dialogue between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Darchiev noted that Trump appeared to understand the importance of cooperation between Russia and the United States. He also pointed to what he described as "good personal chemistry" between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he said contributes to a mutual recognition of the need for closer relations.
“In addition to good personal chemistry between the presidents, there is also an understanding, President Trump's understanding that Russia and America should be together,” Darchiev noted.
Alexander Darchiev assumed his role as ambassador to the US in early March. Before his appointment, he served as the head of the North America Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
