Trump, von der Leyen's meeting remains in Limbo after brief exchange at Pope’s funeral
No details have yet been agreed upon regarding a potential meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, following a brief handshake exchange at Pope Francis’s funeral in Rome.
European Commission chief spokeswoman Paola Pinho said that, “The time and location have not yet been determined,” Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Speaking at a briefing in Brussels, Pinho further clarified that the meeting would occur once a set of decisions was ready for the two leaders to discuss.
When asked about the agenda for the potential meeting, Pinho declined to provide further specifics.
The moment marked the first meeting between Trump and von der Leyen since his inauguration, taking place during the Pope’s funeral ceremony. The exchange lasted for approximately one minute, with both leaders agreeing to meet again soon, as previously reported by the European Commission.
Currently, the European Union is engaged in technical-level negotiations with the U.S., seeking to persuade Washington to refrain from imposing additional tariffs on EU goods, beyond the existing 10% duties on steel, aluminium, and automobiles.
